WESTART! – The Guide

The WESTART! project has successfully completed its first intellectual output, the Guide. The “Guide” of WESTART! is a research paper which aims to provide the general public and the partnership consortium with valuable information regarding the use of electronic media by women at the age of 25 to 40, the target group of the project.

The research was carried out during 2019 in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Austria, Germany and Romania, and involved 25 women in total. The partnership used a combination of quantitative questionnaires for institutions, semi qualitative guided interviews with learners as well as a collection of good practices and the minutes and comments of the Territorial Working Groups installed in each partner country and used as a sounding board and extra source of expertise for the project.

The main results of this research showed that despite the availability of electronic media in general is quite impressive, the distribution of electronic devices is rather uneven and seems to reflect the economic status of the participating countries.

The Guide is available in English, Greek, Italian, German and Romanian here.

The WESTART! project is being implemented in Cyprus by the Centre for the Advancement of Research & Development in Educational Technology (CARDET) and it is aligned with the Centre’s mission to promote gender equality and social justice in the Cypriot society.

CARDET successfully pilots M-Easy’s Training Course

CARDET organized two separate workshops, on the 15 and 18th of November 2019 respectively, to test and evaluate M-Easy’s innovative training course to improve mathematical skills of low-skilled adults. The two workshops served as an opportunity for a group of 19 migrants and asylum seekers to come into contact with the tools of the project and test its innovative methodology of blended learning.

During the first workshop, the project manager presented the M-Easy, introducing to the learners its scope objectives and tools. He then invited them to browse through its website and take the assessment tool. After each learner finished his/her assessment, the project manager recorded his/her score and had a brief discussion as to the skills he/she needs to develop as per the findings of the assessment. Consecutively, the group was presented the project’s e-Directory of Existing Apps and M-Easy’s app and was encouraged to use them over the weekend so that we can test their progress in the second session that was held on the 18th of November.

The second session commenced with a brief discussion where the participants were asked to share their thoughts and experience in using the tools of M-Easy. They were then asked to take up the assessment tool. After their second results were recorded, an evaluation session was held during which participants shared their views as to the process and the project, itself and were asked to fill in the evaluation forms of the project.

The piloting showed that M-Easy’s learning course can make a significant contribution to the mathematical skills of learners. A comparison of the results of the pre and post assessment showed that all participants exhibited progress and got better results in their second test. Most importantly, the facilitator of the workshop recorded excellent comments and regards from the participants who commended the M-Easy project team for its work and resources as well as it innovative approach that allows for catered self-learning.

CARDET hosts two seminars for integration experts

CARDET is organizing two informative seminars for integration experts as part of its project ADMIRE. The two seminars are to be held at KES College on the 29th of October (15:00) and at the Intercollege Research and Technology Centre on the 31s of October (09:00) and will afford practitioners, educators and students an opportunity to learn more about the work and outputs of the project.

During the workshops, ADMIRE’s Project Manager will give an insight to the rationale and approach based on which the project has been developed and was carried out over the course of its two years. He will also walk them through the outputs developed, providing them also the opportunity to log in to the platform and explore them for themselves. Finally, he will seek to facilitate an open discussion through which participants will get the chance to share views and experiences about the issues at hand.

ADMIRE, a project that is now reaching its fruition, is a two-year Erasmus+ KA2 programme that sought to design, develop and test resources and tools to support practitioners, educators and stakeholders in their bid to support migrants through their integration process.

CARDET Press publishes Yale’s Professor Peter Peduzzi’s new book

The book is available on Amazon as EPUB and via CARDET Press. It is published through a collaboration between CARDET and the Yale School of Public Health.

The book outlines principles and practices of multi-site, Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT), primarily in the phase III setting. It covers practical issues related to the design, conduct, monitoring and analysis of multi-site trials and is illustrated with case studies. Readers will develop an understanding of the principles and practice of randomized clinical trials, attain the capacity to apply these principles to RCT design and learn how to critically review and report RCT findings.

The book signals a deepening collaboration between the institutions as was stipulated in the MOU signed in May 2019. Both agreed to extend their collaboration in the fields of research, education and development involving partnerships and the exchange of expertise, best practices and bilateral support.
