Welcome to the first issue of the MEET newsletter for Cyprus!
This newsletter is issued on the completion of the project’s 8 months. During the period of October 2016 until May 2017, the MEET’s consortium of partners have organised and attended two Transnational meetings in Italy and Cyprus. In addition, CARDET has pursued many activities to disseminate the project to a variety of stakeholders.
INNOVADE in collaboration with CARDET, organized the 2nd Multiplier Event for the Project ‘Identity and Diversity Picture Book Collections’. The 2nd Multiplier Event took place on the 22nd of May 2017 at the 3rd Primary School in Limassol. During the event, 16 educators were informed about the project’s aims, objectives and rationale. Moreover, the results of the project were presented (such as leaflet, poster, website, etc). The five modules developed by the IDPBC consortium were tested and participants provided feedback. The picture book based approaches and the Implementation guide for practitioners were also presented.
On the 29th of June, the fourth and last meeting of the IDPBC consortium took place at the University of Nicosia, in Nicosia, Cyprus. CARDET presented to partners the web platform, along with the e-learning modules which has developed. Also, important issues such as the exploitation of the project, the final conference and several project management and financial issues were discussed in detail. Partners from DDG (Lithuania), UPIT (Romania), INNOVADE (Cyprus), Doukas School (Greece), IPCB (Portugal) and CARDET (Cyprus) participated in this meeting.
The final conference of the project ‘Identity and Diversity Picture Book Collections Project’ took place on the 30th of June 2017! The final conference was successfully attended by more than 50 teachers, school principals, psychologists, parents, social workers and students. Firstly, our keynote speaker Dr. Petros Panaou gave a really inspiring speech while after that, the partners of the consortium presented the IDPBC project and its outputs such as the IDPBC Annotated Bibliographic Catalogue and the guide for practitioners. At the end, three workshops followed and participants had the opportunity to engage with activities related to stereotypes, discrimination, use of open educational resources, multilingual and multicultural classrooms, and digital literacy.
Migration and integration of Third Country Nationals in host countries is one of the main priorities of the EU. In this framework, the Mediterranean Migration Network – MMN, since 2012, works towards the collaboration and exchange of good practices among public and private stakeholders active in the fields of migration and integration. One of the primary objectives of the network is to promote inclusion, diversity and cooperation models between public authorities as well as to develop a database of resources.
MMN organized a study visit for 7 servants of Cyprus public services, local authorities and NGOs to the Community of Madrid as it is one of the most experienced and competent local authorities in migration management and integration. The purpose of the study visit was for the participants from Cyprus to see, discuss, learn and exchange views on the processes/practices and policies implemented by various actors in Madrid region.
The study visit that took place on 20 and 21 June 2017, and it was attended by the Asociación La Rueca, Solidaridad sin Fronteras, Guaraní España, Fundación FIE and Asociación Humanismo and Democracia along with professionals from different Cypriot authorities such as the Ministry of Interior, the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund – European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior (AMIF), the Asylum Service, the Migration Department, the Hope for Children CRC Policy Centre, the Municipality of Nicosia (Municipal Multipurpose Centre) and CARDET.
During the study visit, participants had the opportunity to discuss the work that is under development in the region of Madrid in an effort to achieve better coexistence and integration for all citizens settled in national and regional level. In addition, during the study visit to the Community of Madrid, additional visits were made to different centres, among others, to the headquarters of the General Directorate of Social Services and Social Integration, to the Centre of Participation and Integration of Migrants of the Community of Madrid (CEPI) of San Sebastian de los Reyes and finally to the Refugee Centre of Alcobendas.

The purpose of the Mediterranean Migration Network (MMN) sustainability and exploitation plan is to outline the future of the program and the use of valuable knowledge gained from it. The sustainability and exploitation plan contains details about the actions and activities of the MMN along with the research carried out during the program duration.
Successful exploitation and sustainability of the MMN results is one of the key objectives of the network and the program overall. To enable sustainability and exploitation, this plan includes the most important aspects: the results to be exploited, the target groups and stakeholders, the needs and requirements of stakeholders and finally the sustainability and exploitation models. Additional to the current plan is the 3rd edition of the Mediterranean Migration Booklet which collects good practices of migration management and integration from various MMN members.
The greatest potential for exploitation of program results is within the program partners and their networks, who will need to find ways to continue the impact of the program and promote the use of the MMN framework as a central EU platform for exchanging information and practices among member states as well as to make a significant contribution to the development of a strategy for the management and integration of Third Country Nationals (TCNs) in a host community.
Within this framework, the Mediterranean Migration Network created a questionnaire, through which it helps the MMN team to collect members’ ideas regarding the sustainability and exploitation of the Mediterranean Migration Network program. The idea collected will be analysed, in order to identify the possibilities for further deployment and exploitation of the products and outcomes of the program.
MMN aspires to become a consultancy body for its members and external stakeholders. What is more, MMN aims to grow into a hub for collective knowledge and synergies based on experience gathered by the network and its constituent members, in order to improve their migration policies and integration practices and to respond effectively to the escalading challenges created by migration.
The network today can provide newcomers with expertise in EU funding applications, online resources capacities and finding relevant and knowledgeable counterparts for collaboration.

Welcome to the third issue of the SciFUN newsletter!
This newsletter is issued on the completion of the project’s 18 months. During the period of January until early April 2017, the SciFUN’s consortium of partners have completed the Intellectual Output 5 on the development of the “Sample Cross-Curricular Units” and have pursued many activities to disseminate the project to a variety of stakeholders.
Three multiplier events were organized within the Lighthouse Project. The events were successfully attended by more than 40 social workers, trainers, psychologists and people working with migrants in general. Participants had the opportunity to get to know all the outputs of the Lighthouse project such as the Lighthouse interactive model, the training curriculum, the guidebook, toolbox and didactic film. The Cyprus Guide is composed of thematic units providing information covering all aspects of daily life in Cyprus in order to support the integration of TCNs and their participation in the economic, social and cultural life of the island. The Guide is available in different languages covering the main mother tongues of TCNs in Cyprus.
The updated version of the Guide is now available online and it can be accessed here.
The Guide is also available in other languages such as Russian, Sri Lankans (Sinhala and Tamil), Arabic and Filipino. The updated version of these languages is expected to be uploaded online within the following weeks.
This program is managed by the SME INNOVADE and the International Research Centre CARDET. The action “Upgrade of the Cyprus Information Guide” (Action A1 – CY/2016/AMIF/SO2.NO1.1.1) is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the Republic of Cyprus.
