The Vol3DEdu (Volumetric 3D Teachers in Educational Reality) project, dedicated to revolutionising education through Extended Reality (XR) technologies, has successfully reached its conclusion. CARDET, in collaboration with project partners University College Dublin (UCD), Volograms Limited, and the University of the Aegean (UAegean), played a pivotal role in introducing advanced digital pedagogy and XR-based tools into European classrooms.
Through a series of workshops and training sessions, the Vol3DEdu project has made a significant impact across Europe, equipping teachers with the skills and resources to effectively use volumetric 3D and XR content. This pioneering project was launched to address the growing need for digital competencies in education, supporting educators in developing innovative, XR-powered curricula.
Key Project Activities and Achievements
The Vol3DEdu project featured five major workshops that introduced educators to the ethical, technical, and pedagogical aspects of XR in teaching:
- XR Ethics for Digital Transformation: Held in Dublin, Ireland, this workshop brought together over 100 European master trainers and researchers, who explored the integration of volograms into teaching and their potential for educational purposes.
- Open Educational Resources (OER) for XR Content Development: This online session covered open licensing and accessibility, enabling educators to create XR curricula in alignment with the “Opening Up Education” initiative.
- VoluApp Training in Volograms: In an immersive workshop in Dublin, teachers gained insights into the technical aspects of VoluApp, a tool for working with 3D volumetric data, learning how to integrate volograms into teaching to enhance student engagement.
- Creating XR-Integrated Lesson Plans: Educators in Rhodes, Greece, received hands-on training to embed 3D holograms in lesson plans, enriching student engagement across various subjects.
- Showcase of XR Learning Scenarios: At the Learning Innovation Summit 2024 in Nicosia, Cyprus, teachers presented XR-driven learning scenarios developed through the project, sharing valuable insights on XR’s transformative potential in education.
