TINKER MOOC Opens Registrations to Support Inclusive and Authentic Informatics Education

Registrations are now open for the TINKER MOOC: Teach Informatics Using Authentic Learning and Gender Inclusion, a free online professional development course designed to equip educators with practical approaches for delivering more engaging, authentic and gender-inclusive informatics education. The course is hosted on the European Schoolnet Academy and is supported by Scientix.
Running from 23 March to 30 April 2026, the five-week MOOC is aimed at pre-service and in-service primary and secondary informatics teachers, STEM educators, non-formal education practitioners and educational technology professionals. Participants will dedicate approximately 5 hours per week (25 hours in total), with a new module released every week followed by a final assessment during the last week of the course.
Throughout the course, participants will:
- explore authentic learning approaches for teaching informatics;
- develop practical strategies for creating gender-inclusive learning environments;
- analyse and improve existing learning activities using evidence-based methodologies; and
- design their own authentic, gender-inclusive informatics learning scenario ready for classroom implementation.
The MOOC also offers participants the opportunity to engage with a Europe-wide community of educators, exchange good practices and discover innovative teaching methods that help make computer science more relevant and accessible to all learners.
Developed as part of the TINKER project, the course contributes to the project’s mission of transforming informatics education in upper primary and lower secondary schools through authentic learning and gender-inclusive pedagogies, helping address persistent gender imbalances in computer science education.
