AELIA: Policy Learning Meeting and Forum on Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development Held in Athalassa

On Wednesday, 5 November 2025, a Policy Learning Meeting and Forum on Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development was held at the Athalassa Environmental Education Centre, marking the completion of the EU-funded project “AELIA”.

The meeting was organised by the Unit of Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, together with CARDET, with the co-funding of the European Union.

The purpose of the meeting was to share the final policy recommendations developed through the AELIA project and to explore opportunities for collaborative action for their implementation in schools, organisations and educational institutions.

During the Forum, the AELIA White Paper was presented, summarizing key strategies and recommendations to advance Education for Sustainable Development through a holistic, participatory, and institutional approach. This was followed by an interactive workshop where participants exchanged ideas, identified synergies, and proposed ways to integrate the policy recommendations into their own operational contexts.

Participants included, among others, Ministry of Education officials and inspectors, academics and researchers, representatives from the Office of the Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare, as well as members of non-governmental organizations.

Organizers expressed gratitude to all participants for their creative contributions and best practices. The final results of the AELIA project will soon be shared and will serve as a foundation for targeted interventions and monitoring mechanisms.
