His contribution will explore the far-reaching implications of the major transformation that has taken place in the media and news landscape in recent years. According to statistical research, a significant proportion of audiences worldwide, as well as in Cyprus, now rely primarily, and in many cases exclusively, on social media for their news and information.
A central question he will raise is where the growing influence of algorithms on the way news is produced, distributed and consumed is ultimately leading. How does algorithmic influence shape the information audiences encounter, and what does this mean for the future of journalism and informed public discourse? This will be the key question for reflection and discussion.
The webinar is part of the MILES EU-funded project, implemented in Cyprus by CARDET, supporting teachers in building students’ resilience to disinformation through Media and Information Literacy and pre-bunking approaches.
